Why do the Islamic Extremists hate us?

Many Americans have a difficult time understanding why the Islamic extremists hate us so much. To be sure, there are more moderate Muslims who would just like to live in peace and get on with their lives, but you can’t deny that there are some radical groups who really do hate us. We suspect that it must be something that we’ve done, but we are not sure. A frequent assertion is that the primary struggle is between the arch enemies of Christian fundamentalism and Muslim fundamentalism.

In tothesource, Dinesh D’Souza writes:

The popular notion that the war against terrorism is a battle of two opposed forms of religious fundamentalism is false. This is not why the Islamic radicals are fighting against America. From the perspective of bin Laden and his allies, the war is between the Muslim-led forces of monotheism and morality against the America-led forces of atheism and immorality. Secularism, not Christianity is responsible for producing a blowback of Muslim rage.

That’s the conclusion to his article. Read the entire article to understand his reasoning.

It makes sense, and certainly there’s reason to believe it’s true, but I think American support for Israel, of which many elements in the Islamic community hold bitter hatred, still is a major factor.

  • PK says:

I’m sure that our support for Israel is part of it. There are many in the Muslim world who hate Israel. Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad has vowed to wipe Israel from the face of the earth.

  • Tyler Durden says:

Bin Laden literally mentioned U.S. support of Israel when he issued a ‘fatwa’ declaring a holy war against all Americans. Hatred is best characterized as a disease, how it spreads, feeds, destroys. This is so much confusion among average people as to the difference between Muslims and extremists. There are extremists of many religions, but biased minds accuse anyone in a hijab or keffiyeh of being a terrorist.
I’ve met far too many people who preach deep knowledge of current world affairs, who couldn’t correctly name one country on a map of the Middle East. Perhaps the hatred of America is owed to it’s ignorance. I doubt I could change the mind of a brainwashed mujahideen, just as I would not sway the minds of a certain Westboro Baptist church. I hate extremism, do THEY care why?
